Poetry

For our fourth anthology, we are curating a collection of posthuman poetry, which will include previously published poems that fit this theme alongside new submissions. Joining us as special guest editor on the volume is Ashley Capps who co-edited the incredible collection The New Sentience: Reimagining Animal Poetry (2026).

For those new to posthumanism, basically it is a critique of anthropocentrism, human essentialism, dualisms and hierarchy. Instead, we perceive life as materially interconnected and in relation where difference is merely difference without greater or lesser value.

Thus, we would like to decentre human perspectives by including more-than-human subjectivities and traces. We are seeking creative and experimental poems in various modes, including hybrid texts, visual art, and novel considerations of what a posthuman poem could be. 

Note: we are not after “poetry” that just reads as prose with line breaks. Poems should also not revert too much to the human sphere, nor use plant/animal imagery, etc. just to set up a human-centric metaphor. Instead, ask yourself: what would a nonhuman poem look like?

We invite our writers to be as creative and experimental as they can, and to think beyond the boundaries of established genres. Hybridity and creativity with form, as well as artistic enhancement with visual components, are encouraged.


Submission Guidelines

The anthology will be in English with optional bilingual poems en face. We invite everyone from around the world to submit their poems both in their native language they originally wrote it in, as well as an English translation. It is also possible to experiment and submit a poem with multiple languages—inclusive of the more-than-human.

Do reach out to us if you’ve previously published an excellent posthuman poem in the past and would like it included. Otherwise, we’ll be aiming to collect original work that has not been published as well. If accepted, we may then need to go through an editorial process to help get your text ready for print.

Payment: We will pay each author $50 AUD per poem, plus a free digital copy of the book. Alternatively, authors may instead choose to have a physical copy of the book shipped to them inclusive of international shipping.

Layout: You're welcome to be as experimental as you wish with the form. Keep in mind that the book is A5 size with 3mm bleed, and that all images must be minimum 300dpi quality.
